Repurpose & Upcycle your Paper Pumpkin Boxes
Organization, Paper Pumpkin

What should I do with all those leftover Paper Pumpkin boxes?

I write about Paper Pumpkin kits a lot. Every month a box of crafting goodies is delivered to my mailbox from Stampin Up, and these are projects that can be created and look beautiful even by people who insist they aren’t crafty!

I use each one to make the already designed projects, make alternative cards and projects “outside the box,” use up all the leftovers for more crafts, and have stamps and ink pad available for future projects.

Not much gets wasted from these kits, but what about the box? That sturdy, perfectly-sized-for-two-piles-of-A2-cards box.

I had been keeping my extra cards in a craft drawer, but when I needed a specific one, it was difficult to find. Keeping organized keeps me crafting, so I knew I needed to separate my cards by occassion. Repurposing these fantastic boxes was so easy and looks a lot cuter inside my craft closet.

Steps to Repurpose your Paper Pumpkin Boxes

  1. Turn the Box inside out. You can do this by carefully pulling the flaps out from all the corners, and folding each side the other way. Push the flaps into their new homes.
  2. Decide what cards you want in this box! For me, birthday cards are a necessity to have extras on hand, so my first box was to hold birthday cards. (The second was coffee cards because who doesn’t need a little java pick-me-up sometimes?)
  3. Decorate! This is a great way to use up those scraps of pretty paper. You’ll need 9″ x 6″ for the top, 2- 9″ x 1 1/2″ for the front and back, and 2- 6″ x 1 1/2 for the sides.”
  4. You can add a small envelope holder on the inside top of the box. This one is 6 1/2″ x 6 3/4″. Score an inch on 3 of the sides, and fold these tabs under. This’ll form a box. Fussy cut 1/2″ from the top, and adhere the tabs to the inside of the box lid.card box with envelope holder inside
  5. Decide what other categories you might need for these boxes! Thank you cards are great to have ready, as are sympathy and get well cards.

Paper Pumpkin August 2018 Alternatives: 15 Blissful Blooms from One Kit!

I get so excited when my paper pumpkin kit is in the mail! Stampin Up ships the kits on the same date each month, but I can’t help checking the tracking updates until it arrives on my doorstep. (Read to the bottom to find out about a $5 Kit Flash Sale!!)

Normally, I rip open the box (carefully because I also re-use the sturdy boxes), clear my desk, and lay out all the pretty papers and stamps and embellishments and ink. Maybe let the colors and theme simmer a day or two to come up with something creative.

But this time, with the gorgeous blooms in the kit and the Blackberry Bliss ink spot, I knew I would have to wait a little extra time to sit down and do these cards justice. So this post comes a bit late…Halloween took over my desk and this set deserved a little extra time.

I probably could have made more than 15 cards from this kit, but I really love how these styles turned out. The stamps let you create so many more projects with the addition of some cardstock. I did this with this card:

Don’t forget you can use the leftover vellum sheet as a stencil!

I used the vellum sheets with the leaves as a stencil and used Lemon Lime Twist and Mossy Meadow to sponge leaves around the edges of white cardstock. I stamped a few of the blooms using Blackberry Bliss and Flirty Flamingo, fussy cut them, and added all of them using dimensionals to the card.

The Silver Embossing was difficult to capture with my light (the contrast is much greater in real life!), but the sympathy sentiment stamp fits perfectly in the Everyday Label Punch!  With a little ribbon and extra vellum leaves, I added them using dimensionals to the card.

Another card I made is very similar to the suggested kit card, but…

Sometimes a small and easy addition can really make a card feel more personal.

The suggested card is lovely to begin with, but I wanted to add a little embellishment, so I sponged the incluced Blackberry Bliss around the edge and added a scrap of ribbon behind the sentiment tag.

Stamp a Stack from Scraps! You Are My Anchor Scraps Tutorial

From a single paper pumpkin kit, after the kit has been made as instructed, there are always enough extras and scraps for many extra cards! I think this might be a trait of many crafters, but I don’t throw away my leftover pieces or scraps! So let’s be resourceful: I’d like to share a short stack I stamped and created from the scraps and extras after I made the kit, and show you how to do make them, too!
