Paper Pieced Puppy Card for Get Well

A Paper Pieced Puppy Card is made to send get well wishes! With coordinating designer papers and minimal coloring using the Hugs & Healing stamp set, it’s quick to create with this tutorial.

Paper Piecing is a fun technique for artists of all kinds to use. Quilters use it by sewing a patch directly onto a foundation template, and I like to do something similar with my paper! In this case, we’ll create a patch of the blanket (and ice pack) and adhere it directly to a stamped image of the puppy. Bonus: we don’t need to color the blanket to match!

How to make a Paper Pieced Puppy Card:

Cut your cardstock:

• Cloud Cover: 8-1/2” x 5-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
• Florals in Bloom DSP: 3-1/2” x 4-3/4”
  • 3/4” strip for sentiment
  • Scrap for paper pieced blanket
• Regal Distressed Patterns DSP: 3” x 4-1/4”
• Basic White: small scrap for puppy
  • 1/2” strip for sentiment

Create the Puppy:

• On the white cardstock scrap, stamp the puppy. Stamp it again on the DSP scrap.
• With the Stampin’ Blends markers, color the body of the white dog and use a craft knife or scissors to fussy cut it out. Then, fussy cut out the blanket and ice pack from the DSP scrap and adhere it onto the colored puppy.

Make the background of blankets:

• With Shy Shamrock ink, stamp the paw prints randomly on the Cloud Cover card base. Then stamp the sentiment on the small strip of white cardstock, adhere it to the center of 6” of ribbon, and back it with the strip of green DSP.
• Adhere the white and gold DSP at an angle to the top of the green DSP. Next, adhere the ribbon and sentiment towards the bottom of the DSP, wrapped around to the back. Then adhere this to the card front.
• Lastly, use dimensionals to stick the puppy to the front of the card and add gem embellishments to taste!
