Wizard of Oz Encouragement Card
How old were you when you first watched The Wizard of Oz? I was a kid, and although I liked it, I didn’t fully appreciate the movie until I watched it later in life. But I always loved the scene when the group finally sees Emerald City. There were so many colors and the brightness is so hopeful.
This week, we have a fun challenge over at the Crafting By Designs challenge blog! The theme is fantasy, and our sponsor is The Paper Shelter. They are offering a prize of 3 digi images for the winning entry!
Our design team chose to use these fun Wizard of Oz images called Friends Over the Rainbow. There are so many images in this set, it was hard to decide which one to use for my creation.
With the images, I created a Wizard of Oz encouragement card!
How did I start the design process?
Here I’m going to describe the steps I took to create this friends over the rainbow card. The yellow brick road is a definite must for the wizard of oz theme! So I first embossed a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of daffodil delight cardstock with a retired embossing folder with bricks. This made the perfect background reminiscent of the famous yellow brick road!
Next, I printed out the black and white group stamp and colored it in with colored pencils for a muted look. I also printed the colored version of just the lion (sized to fit over the black and white image) and used dimensionals to make him stand out for this card that is all about courage! For a short guide on how to use digital stamps, look around at this Complete Guide to Using Digital Stamps.

Encouragement to be courageous is something we all need sometimes, right?
When I was designing the courage card, I ended up designing a few more that featured just individual characters. This is because there are images of each of the individual characters, colored and uncolored, png and jpg.
Here is my Dorothy card…with those red (glitter embossed) shoes!!
There were just too many possibilities. Who is your favorite character from the Wizard of Oz? I’d love to know! Leave a comment below and see who have the same favorite!
I am entering the Wizard of Oz encouragement card (with the whole group) into The Paper Shelter Challenge – #382 Colour it and the Dorothy card into the Make My Monday Challenge – #96 Yellow, Red, and Green.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you can find the courage to have a day that sparkles. Enjoy, and Happy Crafting!

Thank you, Audrey! It was a good challenge for me, as I often shy away from hand coloring! 💜
