Let’s make a Lantern Paper Pumpkin Alternative card with the Sparkling Celebrations May 2026 kit! It’s quick and easy with the tutorial found here.

I made this card for some neighbors in honor of their son who passed away a couple years ago. Every year on his birthday, we release paper lanterns in the neighborhood to celebrate his life, so this card means something extra special for me to make.

I love changing up the kits — creating things different than the intended projects! This time I made a card with the monthly kit plus a little extra Basic Black cardstock, basic white cardstock, and some black twine.

The card bases in this kit are so gorgeous, I wanted to extend them to multiple cards, so this is one option!

How to make this Lantern Paper Pumpkin Alternative Card:

Cut your cardstock:

Basic White: 8-1/2” x 5-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
Basic Black
- 3-1/4” x 5-1/2”
- 3/4” x 4” for sentiment mat
Lantern cardbase from kit: 3” x 5-1/2”

Stamp Stamp Stamp:

Along the bottom of the lantern piece, stamp the trees from the the kit with Misty Moonlight ink. Then adhere it to the Black piece flush with the top and bottom.
On the banner diecut from the kit, stamp your sentiment. Adhere it to the black strip and fussy cut the end of the black to mirror the banner side.

Put it all together:

Adhere the Lantern piece on the left side of your cardfront.
Next, tie black twine along the right side of your cardfront, and knot or tie a bow.
Lastly, adhere the banner towards the bottom of the lantern piece, over the twine and flush to the right side of the cardfront.

TIP: Accidentally smudge ink on the lantern piece while stamping the trees? Put your sentiment over it to cover!
