Embossing Two Ways for more cards

Embossing two ways is a great way to make cards with different looks. Starting with one template, you can use the dry embossing and the heat embossing techniques for two styles. Combine them with watercolor or with color sponging, and you’ll have fun cards to send.

I made both of these cards after sketching out a single idea I had for a card. I couldn’t decide if I should heat emboss it or dry emboss the background, so I did both. This shows how you can use a single template design to make multiple different cards.

How to make a Dry Embossed Birthday Card:

Cut your cardstock:

• Fresh Freesia: 11” x 4-1/4”, scored at 5-1/2”
• Summer Splash DSP: 4” x 5-1/4”, 1” x 4”
• Basic White: 3-3/4” x 5”, scraps for sentiment and multiple cakes

Emboss, Stamp, and put it together

• On your Basic White layer, sponge circles of color randomly. Then dry emboss by running the paper through your machine with your favorite embossing folder.
• Stamp a couple cakes in each color on white scraps. Then, die-cut the cakes and adhere on top of the sponged circles. Trim the excess. Adhere the DSP strip or ribbon over the top, and stamp your sentiment before you adhere it over that.
• Lastly, adhere this to the DSP layer, and then adhere that to your card base.

How to make a Heat Embossed Birthday Card:

Cut your cardstock:

• Fresh Freesia: 11” x 4-1/4”, scored at 5-1/2”
• Fresh Freesia DSP: 4” x 5-1/4”, 1” x 4”
• Watercolor paper: 3-3/4” x 5”

Emboss, Stamp, and put it together:

• On your watercolor paper layer, stamp the cakes using versamark and sprinkle with white embossing powder. Tap off the excess and heat it until it’s shiny. Then, watercolor circles of color randomly over the cakes.
• Adhere the DSP strip or ribbon over the top, and stamp your sentiment before you adhere it over that.
• Lastly, adhere this to the DSP layer, and then adhere that to your card base.
