Pink Robot – Background Gears Embossed with Dies
Double the use of your dies by embossing instead of cutting with them. This Pink Robot has a silver foil background of gears embossed with dies.
For this months Crafting By Designs challenge, Anything Goes! It’s really a great challenge as you can be creative and make anything, and then you’ll be able to win 2 free digi stamps!
For this pink robot birthday card, I used the digital stamp Birthday Bot from our sponsor Dr. Digi.
To make the birthday bot pop, I put it on a background of silver foil. As cool as this paper is, it needed some texture for more interest. Die-cutting gears from the foil didn’t give the look I wanted, but I didn’t have an embossing folder that said “robot.”
See below how I used my gear die-cuts to created a background embossed with gears.
Steps for the Background Embossed With Dies Technique:
1. Cut silver foil paper to 4″ x 5 1/4″.
2. Make your “sandwich:
Top
- Impressions Pad (white)
- Thin silicone rubber mat (blue)
- Silver Foil Paper (good side down)
- Die (cutting edge UP)
- Standard cutting pad (usually clear)
- Platform (set to the shortest setting)
Bottom
TIP: Sometimes I find the sandwich needs to be super tight for die-cuttting as it rolls through, but the embossing with dies onto foil technique doesn’t take as much pressure to get a deep texture.
3. Run your foil and die-cut/embossing sandwich through your die-cutting machine.
