Wildflower Paper Pumpkin Leftovers Card Tutorial

Let’s use up some scraps! I love being able to make something fun out of leftovers from a different project, don’t you? This time, it was the scraps left from the Paper Pumpkin February 2018 kit, Wildflower Wishes. Read below for my step-by-step tutorial!

Hopefully by now, you’ve completed the kit. I personally tend to use the kit as directed. They often have really cute ideas that I may not have done otherwise! But there are ALWAYS leftovers.

cards from kit

One of my cards made following the kit directions.

My bonus tip with this tutorial:

Store your leftover scraps and embellishments in an old paper pumpkin box (or whatever you have of a convenient size) and label it as “extras.” Paper Pumpkin kits always give plenty of extras such as pearls, ribbons, or other embellishments that you know will be cute in another project. Storing my leftovers works when I don’t yet have inspiration for a new project.

After I created the cards in this kit, I saw the letter stickers and immediately thought “negative images!”

Here’s what I did:

Gather your leftovers from this kit and some paper.

  1. Find a few pieces or scraps of a bold floral print. I used a few pieces from an old Kate Knight 6×6 paper stack but since the letter stickers are tan, any bright pattern will look fantastic.
  2. Depending on how many cards you want to make (you have 3 sets of letters for each saying, so you can make up to 9 new cards), you’ll need a few pieces of plain cardstock that can match your floral pattern. For example, I found a pink cardstock that matched my pink floral pattern.
    • As you can see from the picture, I decided to use 3 different color schemes/patterns for each of the 3 sayings, but feel free to be creative and use what you find in your stash! Using the same color pattern for all of them would also create a cool “set” of cards.
  3. You’ll also need a few pieces of tan paper. Try to match it as best you can to the tone of the letters, but this card is forgiving.

Cut your cardstock and papers.

  1. To make your card base, cut the cardstock 5½” x 8½”..
  2. Cut the tan paper to 5¼” x 4”
  3. Fussy-cut a thin border around the “border” sticker.
    • Peel the sticker off and place smoothly on your floral patterned paper.
    • Peel the letters off one at a time and, trying to keep the letters centered, stick them onto the floral paper inside the border sticker.
    • Now you have the tags complete.

Stamp!

  1. Using the Garden Green ink pad, stamp the flowers around the corners. I used the Garden Green ink pad that came in the kit, but any green will look good!
    • Tie any leftover twine around the card piece with a bow on the side. (The celebrate tag ends up being too long to see any twine, so feel free to skip this step for those cards.)
    • This is a great card to use other colored twines you’ve been saving. Do any match the floral pattern you chose?
  2. Stamp the extra vellum tags using the same green with the matching sentiment and set aside to dry.

Adhere it all together.

  1. Adhere the wrapped tan piece to the card base.
  2. Take the floral tag and adhere it in the center of the tan piece using dimensionals.
  3. Adhere the stamped vellum to the tag using two glue dots.
  4. Use glue dots for the leftover vellum leaves and place pearls around the outside.

I hope you enjoyed making these cards from your leftovers! Happy crafting!
